Application period opens July 1 for $ 79.6 million disaster relief program for poultry and livestock, plasticulture and forestry producers – Neuse News

RALEIGH – The North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services received a block grant of $ 79.6 million USDA to help growers and forest owners in 90 counties that suffered losses in 2018 -2019 because of hurricanes Florence, Michael and Dorian. The application period runs from July 1 to October 1.

This program will provide direct payments to eligible poultry / livestock and plasticulture producers. Assistance will only involve losses associated with those hurricanes that were not covered by other USDA disaster programs.

This program will also provide technical and financial assistance to forest owners in counties declared in a state of emergency that have been affected by these hurricanes. Comprehensive forest management plans will be offered to these landowners in order to assess the impacts of storms on their woodlots and identify beneficial management recommendations.

“The eligibility requirements differ significantly between the agricultural and forestry categories of this block grant,” Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler said. “I encourage farmers and forest owners who think they may be eligible to check out the online links for agricultural applications or to contact their local NC Forest Service County Ranger office for the ‘Woodland Recovery’ component. .
Poultry / livestock and plasticulture producers will need an up-to-date and completed IRS Form W9, ready to be scanned into the app. Additionally, producers are encouraged to research and collect any evidence of structural damage to poultry / pigs and any evidence of damage to plasticulture and greenhouses caused by these specific storms. They must be prepared to scan the documents in the payment review request.

Details on the “Woodland Recovery” program will be available from mid-July by contacting the local NC Forest Service County Ranger office. A list of contacts is available at https://www.ncforestservice.gov/contacts/contacts_main.htm
