Red Cross mass care volunteers

More than 1,500 Red Cross volunteers are on the ground helping those affected by Hurricane Ian. Mass Care volunteers help by responding to local and national disaster response, addressing shelter needs (food distribution, setting up cots, etc.), connecting people to recovery resources, and comforting disaster survivors. What does it take to become a Mass Care volunteer? Volunteers must be 18 years or older, complete the required online training, and respond locally to large-scale disasters. National deployment eligibility is based on required training completed and availability for at least 2 weeks (14 consecutive days). Batchelor Middle School Reality Store Volunteers

The Reality Store is an event that helps students appreciate the “realities” of life and better understand personal finance. In the Reality Store, students pretend they are 28 and starting their lives and careers. The students then visit the stations (manned by volunteers) to determine how to spend their salaries and make ends meet, budgeting for transportation, accommodation, clothing, food, etc. This hands-on exercise teaches the importance of budgeting and how grades can affect future earnings. There are two volunteer shifts available for this event: Shift 1: 8 a.m. to 11:25 a.m. and Shift 2: 11:45 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Background check required. Registration closes November 25, so respond today to https://tinyurl.com/reality-store-volunteeror by emailing Mary Kiarie at [email protected].
