Disasters and Crises Delegate for West Africa – Niger

About the position and the missions

To achieve the ambitious goals of the Danish Red Cross International Strategy 2022-25, the Danish Red Cross (DRC) is looking for an experienced Disaster Management Delegate to be part of the Unit’s team of Global Humanitarian Delegates response to disasters and crises in the DRC.

DRC works with National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies in 16 countries in the Middle East, Europe, Asia and Africa to provide humanitarian assistance to vulnerable populations. In addition to our own humanitarian response, DRC works multilaterally with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).

The DRC responds to disasters and crises globally and deploys delegates to support humanitarian response operations. As a Disaster and Crisis Delegate, you will be deployed to West Africa for a year and work closely with DRC Red Cross Red Crescent partner societies in the region.

Your tasks will be to help develop and strengthen the strategic approach to disaster and crisis response in the region. This includes ensuring humanitarian standards, assessing needs and capacities, analyzing response options and designing responses, building partner capacity, contributing to the management of response operations and supporting resource mobilization and fundraising work. funds for response operations.

  • A minimum of 3-5 years of relevant work experience, including international work experience
  • Humanitarian experience, including knowledge and experience in operations management, relief operations, emergency health, cash and voucher assistance, or similar
  • Ability to work under pressure in chaotic environments
  • Flexibility and ability to work independently and in a team
  • Ability to adapt to local cultures and support local partners, staff and volunteers
  • Innovative, proactive and with strong interpersonal skills
  • Fluency in French and English. Danish is an advantage.
  • In good mental and physical health (a thorough health check is mandatory before deployment)

The start date is as soon as possible. We will offer you a one-year contract with the possibility of extension. The posts will be based in Niger and extensive travel within the region is expected.

The monthly salary, including allowances and pension, is between 40,000 DKK and 43,500 DKK, depending on experience and qualifications. During deployments, furnished accommodations are available. This is a non-family position.
