The Indiana Region of the American Red Cross is deploying eight volunteers to eastern Kentucky to help with recovery efforts after major flooding earlier this week.

Additional volunteers could be deployed from the area in the coming days as Red Cross teams continue to identify needs in eastern Kentucky.

Volunteers will help with mental health services, food assistance, shelter support and more.

How to help:

Visit redcross.org, call 800 RED-CROSS or text the word REDCROSS to 90999 to donate $10. Donations allow the Red Cross to prepare for, respond to and help people recover from these disasters. This includes providing food, shelter, relief supplies, emotional support and other forms of assistance.
Eligible blood donors in areas of the country not affected by flooding are encouraged to donate blood to help ensure an adequate blood supply. Through the Red Cross National Inventory System, the Red Cross can get blood across the country, where and when it is needed most.
The Red Cross continues to seek volunteers for the Disaster Action Team (DAT). As a DAT volunteer, you will provide emotional support, financial assistance, and information to help families begin the recovery process. Volunteers will be trained to respond to these emergencies. Those interested in volunteering can register at redcross.org/dat.
