The Bermuda Red Cross has raised over $370,000 for the Ukraine Crisis Appeal, we learned tonight.

The Bermuda-based Peter Cundhill Foundation, set up to promote the welfare of children, donated $100,000 out of a total of $372,234.

Ann Spencer-Arscott, Executive Director of the Bermuda Red Cross, said: “We are so humbled by the incredible support received from people from all walks of life in Bermuda.

She told the audience: “These are difficult times for many. If you can drop coins or bills into the many buckets that have been set up around the island, it makes a difference to someone else who has nothing.

The island’s Red Cross has sent $190,000 to its British counterpart so the money can be passed on to the international federation that manages the Ukrainian fund.

Maksym Dotsenko, Director General of the Ukrainian Red Cross, added: “Many of our staff and volunteers are also experiencing the conflict firsthand.

“They worry about their families and their safety, yet they continue to don the Red Cross vest to provide essential aid to neighbors and strangers.

“This is the true spirit of the principle of volunteerism on which the Red Cross is based.”

Donations can be made on call to Butterfield Bank account number 20 006 060 663859 200

Donations can also be made online at www.bermudaredcross.com with a debit/credit card, or by phone at 236-8253 Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
