“New Japan vs. NOAH” takes place for the third night of Wrestle Kingdom 16 in Yokohama, part of the proceeds go to the Japanese Red Cross

New Japan Pro Wrestling & Pro Wrestling NOAH presented a joint press conference announcing a huge double-promoted charity show on January 8th. The third night of Wrestle Kingdom 16 will be themed “New Japan vs. NOAH” and will take place at Yokohama Arena on January 8, with a portion of the proceeds going to the Japanese Red Cross. It will also be its own separate PPV, presented by ABEMA.

NJPW President Takami Ohbari and Pro Wrestling NOAH President Sanshiro Takagi were both present at the press conference. Ohbari had mentioned on November 15 the NJPW’s 50th anniversary announcement that there would be “dream events” and confirmed on Saturday that the New Japan vs NOAH show is the first of those shows.

After remarks from the business leaders, they were joined by Hiroshi Tanahashi from NJPW and Kaito Kiyomiya from Pro Wrestling NOAH. While Tanahashi is a regular franchise face for NJPW, the decision to have Kiyomiya present, instead of current GHC heavyweight champion Naomichi Marufuji or Keiji Mutoh, was a great show of support for the former GHC heavyweight champion. .

Kiyomiya challenged Kazuchika Okada to a match over a year ago, and repeated that challenge at the press conference. “I want the Rainmaker,” he said. “A new era is coming. “

Although no match has yet been announced, President Ohbari mentioned that not only will wrestlers from NOAH and NJPW face each other, but they will also be able to team up. A video was released, with wrestlers from both companies discussing the upcoming event.

The NOAH Pro Wrestling side of the conversation was a bit more aggressive than NJPW’s. Kiyomiya and GHC heavyweight champion Katsuhiko Nakajima both spoke of bringing a “war” to New Japan, while NJPW’s Kazuchika Okada chuckled dismissing NOAH as “amateur.” IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Shingo Takagi has told his story with wrestlers like Marufuji and Nakajima, but always spoke in a much more muted and competitive tone than NOAH wrestlers.

This will be the first time that NOAH and NJPW have co-promoted a show since NJPW, NOAH and All Japan Pro Wrestling teamed up for ALL TOGETHER in 2011 and 2012. This will be the first time for NOAH to be involved in a wrestling kingdom. appropriate, with NOAH having an occasional presence at the Tokyo Dome shows on January 4 before NJPW’s first Wrestle Kingdom in 2007. There was no mention of the NOAH sibling promotions under the CyberFight, DDT, Ganbare Pro banner. & Tokyo Joshi Pro Wrestling. Also, the STARDOM promotion of NJPW siblings was not mentioned.

Wrestle Kingdom Nights 1 and 2 will take place on January 4 and 5 and will be featured on NJPWWorld. Night 3 will take place on January 8 and will be broadcast on PPV by ABEMA. The January 8 show will be available on NJPWWorld a week after it airs live.
