The Philippine Red Cross Society (PRC) – Batangas Chapter sent aid to a woman who gave birth amid the onslaught of Tropical Storm Paeng on Saturday evening October 29.
PRC – Batangas Chapter said in an interview with the Manila Bulletin that they were initially tasked with assisting the local government unit in San Juan, Batangas, to evacuate patients from San Juan District Hospital.
But the roads leading to the district hospital were not passable due to flooding at chest level, he added.
The volunteers’ mission was then diverted to the evacuation of families from Barangay Balagbag to Buhay Na Sapa and Poctol.
While awaiting further instructions, CRP volunteers were alerted by an official from the Manila Office of Disaster Management and Risk Reduction that a woman had given birth inside their vehicle in Barangay Buhay na Sapa.
“The team immediately went to the mentioned area and saw that the family was already at Talahiban 1st and the mother had already given birth inside their vehicle,” PRC said.
Upon arrival, PRC – Batangas Chapter said its volunteers immediately checked the mother for viral signs, ensured the safety of the mother and baby “Jadiel” against hypothermia and septic shock, cut the umbilical cord and the had been transported to the nearest clinic. via PRC’s 6×6 rescue vehicle.
