PH Red Cross rescues 4 as chest-deep flooding hits Davao

Four people were rescued by the Davao city branch of the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) as flooding hit communities near the banks of the Davao River.

To ensure that no lives are lost, PRC President and CEO Dick Gordon said volunteers in the PRC Davao branch were responding quickly to those in need of help. .

“I have asked other neighboring sections to be on alert and ready to respond when needed,” he said.

Gordon asked PRC Davao Chapter staff and volunteers to deploy two of its inflatable boats in Davao City, especially in Bacaca, Tigatto, Waan, Maa and Bucana districts, as well as parts of Lasang.

“The Davao City Red Cross chapter is always on alert in case they are needed,” Gordon said.

The PRC team rescued a total of 4 people trapped in the floods and took them to the evacuation center.

The PRC said communities around the Davao River in Davao City were inundated due to continued heavy rains that hit the region on November 10.

The Davao City Chapter of the PRC is also in close coordination with the city’s Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office for other operations as needed.

Meanwhile, the PRC has also established a preventive evacuation center along the Carlos P. Garcia 10 highway where four families or 14 people are currently being relocated.

Evacuation centers have also been set up at Baranggay 76-A to serve as temporary shelter for 15 families or 45 people.
