CATHEDRAL CITY, California – The Texas Tech softball team (4-10) missed a seventh-inning rally as the Red Raiders lost an 8-7 game to Long Beach State (5-8) Saturday afternoon at Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic.
A big fourth inning propelled the Beach to the win, as they scored four runs to take a 6-4 lead with five hits in the inning.
LBSU came first to the board early in the second when a throwing error allowed two runs to cross. In the bottom half of the inning, the Red Raiders responded by putting up a third-place finish to lead 3-2. Riley Ehlen started the inning with a single and Kennedy Crites market to put two for Peyton Blythe who landed his second home run in the last two games, driving deep into center field.
Tech added one more point in the third to make it 4-2 on a triple from payton jackson Which side scored Carson Armijo.
Le Beach opened the fourth with a single down the middle and put the runners up for second and third after a single and an error. Back-to-back hits scored three runs to give them a 5-4 lead. Another run occurred after the runner on third scored on a pitching pitch.
Long Beach doubled its lead in the top of the sixth with a triple to center field that scored a pair of runs followed by a left-hander single that brought the eighth run of the game to make it 8-4.
Tech held them scoreless in the top of the seventh to keep a four-point deficit. love riley walked to start the bottom of seventh and moved up to second on wild pitch. Villa Ariana hit a field single to put runners in the corners for Ellie Bailey who hit a double pinch to left field to score a run, 8-5. Armijo picked the midfielder in the next at-bat, scoring Villa and half elder to make it a one-point game at 8-7. Beach called his bullpen for the last two outs of the game, striking out a batter and forcing a deep flight to the right for the last out of the game.
Erna Carlin started in the circle for the Red Raiders, pitching 2.0 innings allowing two runs, none earned, on three hits. Olivia is raining (0-3) entered the third inning, pitching the third and opening the fourth inning before going out after 1.0 innings pitched with four runs allowed on four hits. Morgan Hornback pitched two and two-thirds innings, allowing two runs on four hits with two strikeouts. Ranci Willis finished the game for Tech, pitching the final 1.1 innings with no hits and no runs allowed and one strikeout.

- Villa Arriana hit in the bottom of the seventh added to his hitting streak, which is now at four games.
- Despite the loss, the Red Raiders scored the second most points this season with seven, only scoring more in their season-opening 8-0 win over UTSA.
