Red Cross volunteers help Allendale area after multiple tornadoes cause destruction

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) – American Red Cross volunteers respond to storm damage and tornado-affected residents in Allendale County.

Members of the South Carolina Red Cross Disaster Action Team are providing those affected with financial assistance for immediate needs like shelter, food and clothing to affected families.

In addition to immediate needs, the Red Cross is providing virtual mental and spiritual care assistance to anyone who may need it.

The Red Cross will continue to stay in contact with partners to see if further assistance is needed.

“As our teams work with the families affected, we are certainly thinking of them and want to give them all the support we can,” said Rebecca Jordan, Executive Director of the Central Section. “This devastating event reminds us that disasters can strike anywhere and anytime. With severe spring storms looming, we’re asking the community to stay prepared by packing an emergency kit, creating a plan with your family, and making sure you have a way to receive weather alerts, like the app. Red Cross emergency.

The South Carolina Division of Emergency Management is also asking anyone who wants to help to contact them.
