Saudi Arabia to Host 4th OIC Conference on Mediation
ISLAMABAD (APP) – The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will host the fourth two-day conference of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on Sunday highlighting the role of the OIC in maintaining regional and global peace and security .
The conference titled “Experiences and Prospects” will be organized by the Saudi Foreign Ministry in collaboration with the OIC in Jeddah, a press release said on Saturday.
“The conference aims to strengthen the role of the OIC in the field of maintaining regional and global peace and security, as well as to create a new mediation mechanism using the capabilities and capabilities of the OIC to resolve conflicts, especially in light of recent statistics indicating that more than 60% of conflicts occur in Islamic countries,” he said.
The conference is expected to discuss innovative ways and new roles for the OIC to participate in mediation efforts aimed at preventing and resolving conflicts.
“It should be noted that the Council of Foreign Ministers of the OIC issued at its last session in Islamabad a resolution on “strengthening the mediation capacity of the OIC” in which it stressed the need for ‘integrate mediation into the field of work and activities of the OIC and build capacity for mediation support activities’, it was added.
The event aims to exchange regional and global experiences in the field of mediation, conflict prevention and resolution and to activate the role of preventive diplomacy in this regard, in addition to discussing the challenges and difficulties facing faced with mediation efforts.
The conference comprises five sessions dealing with, among others, the role of the OIC in the field of mediation, the humanitarian perspective on mediation and partnerships with international and regional organizations.
Speakers from different continents and geographical groups will participate in the conference to enrich its sessions.
More than 200 experts representing OIC Member States, OIC institutions, United Nations, International Committee of the Red Cross and Red Crescent, specialized research centers as well as regional and international personalities leaders in the field of mediation, including several observers within the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), will participate in the conference.
