Tornadoes in Texas: What to do if you have damage

Here’s how you can report property damage, seek shelter, and check for power outages.

AUSTIN, Texas – Multiple tornadoes were confirmed in the central Texas area on Monday afternoon. KVUE has already confirmed damage to many buildings after heavy hail and high winds, especially at Round Rock.

Here are the answers to some of the questions you may already be asking yourself:

How to report property damage

The Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) encourages citizens to report property damage by submitting a damage assessment survey.

Texans can report damage to their homes or businesses using the Texas Individual State Assessment Tool (iSTAT). The information provided in the survey helps emergency management officials understand the damage that has occurred and helps officials determine whether the damage meets federal requirements for various forms of disaster assistance, as well as identify immediate resource needs.

“By providing details through the iSTAT damage survey, Texans can inform emergency management officials of the extent of the damage sustained during this severe weather event,” said the Chief of Emergency Management of the Texas, Nim Kidd. “Texans are encouraged to participate in the damage assessment process by uploading photos and including important details about any loss.”

How to check for power outages

Several power outages were also reported in the area.
