Reception of the Be More Awards

Join the Bloomington Volunteer Network for the 2022 Be More Awards Reception from 5-8 p.m. May 6 in the Lower Gallery of the John Waldron Arts Center. The reception will be an interactive exhibit and celebration that recognizes the extraordinary individuals, organizations and businesses that have made impactful contributions through service in our community. The spotlight will be on those who lend their hands, their voice, their support, their influence and their passion to create the change they want to see in the community. No registration is required. The reception will be part of the May Bloomington Gallery Walk and is free and open to the public. The Be More Awards are sponsored by the City of Bloomington, United Way of Monroe County, Community Foundation of Bloomington and Monroe County, IU Credit Union and WTIU Public Television.

Global Youth Service Days

Young people are invited to make changes in their community on April 29 and 30. Global Youth Service Day is the largest service event in the world. The Monroe County Youth Council, with support from the Monroe County Youth Services Bureau and the City of Bloomington Volunteer Network, invites teens enrolled at any Monroe County high school to part of GYSD through hands-on volunteer projects focusing on poverty, mental health and climate change. Don’t wait for the deadline to register! This year, registration for Global Youth Service Day will be on a first-come, first-served basis. Service projects will close as they are filled and participation is limited. Register online today, including submission of a liability waiver, before the April 27 deadline. Red Cross Preparedness Team

The impact of a disaster can be devastating, and the American Red Cross is there to respond. But did you know that it is also part of the mission of the Red Cross to help people prepare? As a preparedness volunteer, you can help educate individuals, families and communities on actions to reduce disaster risk, prepare to respond to and cope with disasters when they occur. Spotlight on the Community Wishlist

BLOOMINGTON SECOND HAND SHOP

The Bloomington Thrift Shop Inc., “the little yellow store” at the corner of East Third and South Madison streets, is a non-profit resale store. It operates as the fundraising arm of Psi Iota Xi, a national philanthropic sorority. Proceeds from donated item purchases provide scholarships, grants, and funding for more than 50 community service programs in Monroe County and throughout Indiana.
