OGDEN — Officials of the Weber County Sheriff’s Office and the Weber Fire District call it the Battle of the Badges and both sides are out for blood – donors, that is.

With the aim of helping the American Red Cross, the two agencies are partnering with the organization in a blood drive scheduled for next Monday and Tuesday. The drive will run from noon to 6 p.m. each day and will be held at the Sheriff’s Office Warehouse at 1387 Depot Drive in Ogden.

The public is invited and asked to make an appointment in advance, but walk-ins are welcome. Go to to make an appointment and use GVH as the sponsor code in the “find a blood drive” box.

“The blood drive encourages community members to join local first responders to help increase blood donations during the critical summer months when the blood supply is low,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement.

Officials from the two agencies also turned the campaign into a friendly competition, the Battle of the Badges, asking donors to choose their preferred agency before donating blood – “guns or pipes”. The winning team will be announced at the end of the drive.

Those who participate in the collection will have a chance to win Shark Week Swag in partnership with Discovery! television network.
